Numbers 1:1: Adonai spoke to Moshe in the Sinai Desert, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month of the second year after they had left the land of Egypt.

The Book of Numbers, called Bamidbar (“In the Wilderness”) in Hebrew, records Israel’s journey from Mount Sinai to the plains of Moab as they prepare to enter the Promised Land. It captures a formative period in Israel’s history, marked by G-d’s guidance, the people’s repeated struggles with faith and obedience, and G-d’s unwavering commitment to His covenant promises.
