Sukkot 2026 is here!

Sukkot Scripture

Leviticus 23:33-44 CJB: 33 Adonai said to Moshe, 34 “Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of Sukkot for seven days to Adonai. 35 On the first day there is to be a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work. 36 For seven days you are to bring an offering made by fire to Adonai; on the eighth day you are to have a holy convocation and bring an offering made by fire to Adonai; it is a day of public assembly; do not do any kind of ordinary work.

37 “‘These are the designated times of Adonai that you are to proclaim as holy convocations and bring an offering made by fire to Adonai—a burnt offering, a grain offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, each on its own day—38 besides the Shabbats of Adonai, your gifts, all your vows, and all your voluntary offerings that you give to Adonai.

39 “‘But on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered the produce of the land, you are to observe the festival of Adonai seven days; the first day is to be a complete rest and the eighth day is to be a complete rest. 40 On the first day you are to take choice fruit, palm fronds, thick branches, and river willows, and celebrate in the presence of Adonai, your G-d, for seven days. 41 You are to observe it as a feast to Adonai seven days in the year; it is a permanent regulation, generation after generation; keep it in the seventh month. 42 You are to live in sukkot for seven days; every citizen of Isra’el is to live in a sukkah, 43 so that generation after generation of you will know that I made the people of Isra’el live in sukkot when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am Adonai your G-d.’”

44 Thus Moshe announced to the people of Isra’el the designated times of Adonai.

Sukkot 2026 begins at sundown today and ends at nightfall on Friday, October 2, 2026. This festival reminds us of the protection and guidance of the Most High for Israel during their 40 years in the wilderness while living in sukkahs. We are commanded, as a reminder of our ancestors' pilgrimage, to live in our own sukkah and spend time in the presence of G-d. This time is to be a joyous celebration and fellowship with family and friends (cf. Leviticus 23:40).

As the Most High's children, we should know these feasts are part of G-d's calendar, with moedim (appointed times) leading to the Messiah's return and our eternal union and abode with the Most High forever. Zechariah 14:16-19 speaks to the feast of Sukkot when the Messiah returns. It says,

"16 Finally, everyone remaining from all the nations that came to attack Yerushalayim will go up every year to worship the king, Adonai-Tzva’ot, and to keep the festival of Sukkot. 17 If any of the families of the earth does not go up to Yerushalayim to worship the king, Adonai-Tzva’ot, no rain will fall on them. 18 If the family of Egypt doesn’t go up, if they refuse to come, they will have no [annual] overflow [from the Nile]; moreover, there will be the plague with which Adonai will strike the nations that don’t go up to keep the festival of Sukkot. 19 This will be Egypt’s punishment and the punishment of all the nations that don’t go up to keep the festival of Sukkot.

We are awaiting these events on the calendar of G-d. Just as exciting are the future events in Revelation 21:1-4, 22-27:

"1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had passed away, and the sea was no longer there. 2 Also I saw the holy city, New Yerushalayim, coming down out of heaven from G-d, prepared like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice from the throne say, “See! G-d’s Sh’khinah is with mankind, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and he himself, God-with-them, will be their G-d. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will no longer be any death; and there will no longer be any mourning, crying, or pain; because the old order has passed away.”

"22 I saw no Temple in the city, for Adonai, G-d of heaven’s armies, is its Temple, as is the Lamb. 23 The city has no need for the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s Sh’khinah gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 Its gates will never close, they stay open all day because night will not exist there, 26 and the honor and splendor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure may enter it, nor anyone who does shameful things or lies; the only ones who may enter are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life."

These are exciting and serious times! We must obey and teach others to obey and observe the feasts of the LORD, learn how to discern where we are on His timetable, and be busy about our Father's true business.
