26 “When you have come to the land Adonai your G-d is giving you as your inheritance, taken possession of it and settled there; ² you are to take the firstfruits of all the crops the ground yields, which you will harvest from your land that Adonai your G-d is giving you, put them in a basket and go to the place where Adonai your G-d will choose to have his name live.

The Most High is a promise keeper. He told the Israelites while in the wilderness what He wanted them to do with the firstfruits of their own crops when they settled in the Promised Land. They had walked years in the wilderness eating manna and were now soon to cross over into the land of promise.

While not part of this week’s readings, Joshua 5 shows how faithful the Most High is to His promises. The children of the Most High while in Gilgal in the plains of Jericho, having finally crossed over into the Promised Land, observed their first Passover in the Canaan (the land of promise). John 5:12 says, “The following day, after they had eaten food produced in the land, the manna ended. From then on the people of Isra’el no longer had manna; instead, that year, they ate the produce of the land of Kena‘an.” The Most High had not only brought them into the land He promised, they were eating their crops in the land too!
