Genesis 12:1 Now Adonai said to Avram, “Get yourself out of your country, away from your kinsmen and away from your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make of you a great nation, I will bless you, and I will make your name great; and you are to be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, but I will curse anyone who curses you; and by you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
4 So Avram went, as Adonai had said to him, and Lot went with him. Avram was 75 years old when he left Haran.
Genesis 15:1 Some time later the word of Adonai came to Avram in a vision: “Don’t be afraid, Avram. I am your protector; your reward will be very great.” 2 Avram replied, “Adonai, G-d, what good will your gifts be to me if I continue childless; and Eli‘ezer from Dammesek inherits my possessions? 3 You haven’t given me a child,” Avram continued, “so someone born in my house will be my heir.” 4 But the word of Adonai came to him: “This man will not be your heir. No, your heir will be a child from your own body.” 5 Then he brought him outside and said, “Look up at the sky, and count the stars — if you can count them! Your descendants will be that many!” 6 He believed in Adonai, and He credited it to him as righteousness.

Genesis 17:15 G-d said to Avraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are not to call her Sarai [mockery]; her name is to be Sarah [princess]. 16 I will bless her; moreover, I will give you a son by her. Truly I will bless her: she will be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” 17 At this Avraham fell on his face and laughed — he thought to himself, “Will a child be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah give birth at ninety?” 18 Avraham said to G-d, “If only Yishma‘el could live in your presence!” 19 G-d answered, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you are to call him Yitz’chak [laughter]. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

Genesis 18:10 He said, “I will certainly return to you around this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard him from the entrance of the tent, behind him. 11 Avraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years; Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, thinking, “I am old, and so is my lord; am I to have pleasure again?” 13 Adonai said to Avraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and ask, ‘Am I really going to bear a child when I am so old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for Adonai? At the time set for it, at this season next year, I will return to you; and Sarah will have a son.”

Genesis 21:1 Adonai remembered Sarah as he had said, and Adonai did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah conceived and bore Avraham a son in his old age, at the very time G-d had said to him. 3 Avraham called his son, born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Yitz’chak. 4 Avraham circumcised his son Yitz’chak when he was eight days old, as G-d had ordered him to do. (v) 5 Avraham was one hundred years old when his son Yitz’chak [laughter] was born to him. 6 Sarah said, “G-d has given me good reason to laugh; now everyone who hears about it will laugh with me.” 7 And she said, “Who would have said to Avraham that Sarah would nurse children? Nevertheless, I have borne him a son in his old age!” 8 The child grew and was weaned, and Avraham gave a great banquet on the day that Yitz’chak was weaned.
Genesis 22:11 But the angel of Adonai called to him out of heaven: “Avraham? Avraham!” He answered, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy! Don’t do anything to him! For now I know that you are a man who fears G-d, because you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 Avraham raised his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in the bushes by its horns. Avraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Avraham called the place Adonai Yir’eh [Adonai will see (to it), Adonai provides] — as it is said to this day, “On the mountain Adonai is seen.” 15 The angel of Adonai called to Avraham a second time out of heaven. 16 He said, “I have sworn by myself — says Adonai — that because you have done this, because you haven’t withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will most certainly bless you; and I will most certainly increase your descendants to as many as there are stars in the sky or grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will possess the cities of their enemies, 18 and by your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed — because you obeyed my order.”

I promised to return to “the timing of G-d is sure" today. From today’s reading, we find that despite Sarah being past the age of childbearing, the Most High delivered the promised son to Abraham and Sarah at the very time G-d had said he would (Genesis 21:2). When the Most High speaks to us regarding His divine plan for the Kingdom, we can believe that He knows exactly what He is doing, when He will do it, and all we must ensure to get there.
Our assignment is to be like Abraham in Genesis 15:6 when the Most High told Abraham he would have a son; he believed in Adonai. Believing is the first part, and the other part is not wavering, listening to anyone else trying to help G-d, and having patience while the LORD is working to manifest the promise. We are all familiar with Sarai (her name had not been changed yet) hatching a plan for Abraham to have a child by her slave-girl, Hagar. Ishmael was born, but he was not the promised son. (Read Genesis 16). The Most High does not need our help. He is fully capable of bringing forth what He promised. Abraham was 75 when the first promise from the Most High was that He would make Abraham a great nation and bless his offspring; 86 when Ishmael was born; and 100 when Isaac (Yitz’chak) was born. It took 25 years for the promised son to manifest.
This was not just a fulfillment of a promise but a miraculous blessing. Sarah was well beyond childbearing age. Yet, at the appointed time (moed), her body woke up and responded not only by holding the child until delivery but also by producing milk for the child to be nursed until weaned. Once Isaac was weaned, Abraham celebrated the fulfillment of the long-awaited promise. Only the Most High could conceive and carry out such a beautiful plan.
Genesis 22 shows that the Most High tested Abraham further by asking him to sacrifice Isaac, and again, Abraham believed G-d and obeyed. The LORD provided a ram and reaffirmed His promise to bless Abraham and all the nations of the earth because he obeyed. Read Romans 4. We are still part of the Most High continuing to fulfill that promise to Abraham. The Most High has a plan for everything and every one of His children. Beloved, if He has made you a promise, believe it and wait for the appointed time, for His timing is sure. How do I know? His word in Numbers 23:19 tells us, "G-d is not a human who lies or a mortal who changes his mind. When He says something, he will do it; when He makes a promise, he will fulfill it." And you can believe His timing is always perfect!
